It was recently reported that Mick Schumacher’s contract talks with Haas have stalled, leading some to believe that his time with the American team could very well be coming to an end following the 2022 Formula 1 season.
This news followed the announcement that two-time world champion Fernando Alonso would be leaving Alpine to replace four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel at Aston Martin after Vettel had backed Schumacher for his seat.
So where will the 23-year-old German end up in 2023? Here are five possibilities.
Just because contract talks have stalled doesn’t mean that Mick Schumacher is guaranteed not to return to Haas next year.
While it does appear that Schumacher’s leverage is gone with the Aston Martin seat taken, this move could simply be a way for Haas to assess all of their options before making a decision, and those options are sure to include Schumacher, whose recent improvement in form could very well lead to more favorable results.
Kevin Magnussen has been seen as outperforming the second-year driver, but Schumacher has actually beaten him in seven of 13 races so far in 2022. With his first two point-scoring efforts under his belt, more success could still result in a contract extension.
