TROY — A Florida-based real estate executive has purchased the historic St. Patrick’s Church building in the North Central neighborhood for $249,500, according to land records in the Rensselaer County Clerk’s Office.
St. Patrick of 6th Ave LLC filed the deed Feb. 9 for the church at 3027 Sixth Ave. above the city of Troy’s $197,368 assessment of the property. The real estate holding company is controlled by Jackeline Londono of Miami Beach, Fla.
Londono is out of the country and unavailable for comment, said Deanna Dal Pos, the NAI Platform real estate agent who handled the auction and sale of the church property.
“I’m working to introduce her to people in Troy. She’s very enthusiastic about the city and how beautiful Troy is,” Dal Pos said Monday.
Londono is a real estate agent with Morgan Whitney in Miami Beach and is listed as president of its commercial division on her Linkedin account.
Just what Londono intends to do with the more than a century-old building is not known. Dal Pos said many people have considered converting the church to an event space or apartments.
Londono’s attention was drawn to the church when the 14,416-square-foot building — which has 13 historic bells, soaring twin bell towers and 56-foot-high ceilings — was posted online for a worldwide auction operated by Ten-X. The company, which says it is the “world’s largest, online commercial real estate exchange,” held the auction from Dec. 12-15 and started the bidding at $1.
Londono is the fourth owner of the church in the past decade. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany sold it to the Episcopal Diocese of Albany for $1 in 2015, which in turn sold it to St. Patrick Troy LLC of 130 Canvass St., Cohoes, a company controlled by Brian McCandless. That LLC bought it for $500 in 2020.
The city of Troy pegged the market value of the church at $3.7 million when it assessed the property in 2010, a decade after the parish closed. The church, which was water damaged, had been stripped of its pews, statues and other furnishings by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany. The diocese offers the fixtures to its parishes and then sells what isn’t claimed.
The edifice, with its exterior Gothic façade at the entrance from Sixth Avenue, dominates the skyline in the North Central neighborhood. St. Patrick’s parish was established in 1872 to serve a predominantly Irish-American congregation. The parish was among 33 of 190 worship sites that were closed as the part of Roman Catholic Diocese’s “Called to be Church” plan that consolidated older urban parishes in which attendance had fallen.
