As we click into the New Year, the countdown to the 2023 Cheltenham Festival will gather momentum as the National Hunt world flocks to Cheltenham racecourse for four fabulous days of top quality jumping action between March 14-17. From now until the spring the entries for all the Cheltenham Festival races will be released and at HorseRacing.net we provide you with all the important dates as to when the fields are known…
The highlight of the entire Cheltenham Festival is the Cheltenham Gold Cup, which will hopefully see reigning champion A Plus Tard take on the Willie Mullins-trained phenomenon Galopin Des Champs, while the British charge will be spearheaded by Bravemansgame and L'Homme Presse. The Cheltenham Gold Cup entries are set to be released on Tuesday 3rd January along with the Queen Mother Champion Chase and Ryanair Chase.
Reigning Champion Chaser Energumene is sure to be a warm order for the two-mile Championship race on day two of the Cheltenham Festival and will be another flying the flag for the aforementioned Mullins, while team Closutton are likely to be represented by Allaho in the Ryanair Chase, who was a sumptuous winner of the Grade 1 2m 5f contest at the 2022 festival.
Nicky Henderson's Constitution Hill has been the new sensation to hit the turf over the last couple of seasons and last year's runaway Supreme Novices' Hurdle hero has been a facile winner of both the Fighting Fifth Hurdle and Christmas Hurdle, and will be the star name in the Champion Hurdle, which will have its entries released on January 10. However, queen of the turf Honeysuckle is a multiple winner of the Tuesday feature and while she lost her unbeaten run she will likely take on the Seven Barrows star here. Also on the 10th, the Mares' Hurdle and Stayers' Hurdle entries will be released. Can Flooring Porter land a third Stayers' Hurdle for Gavin Cromwell?
